In a recent webinar on what to expect from the luxury market in the latter part of 2010, Pam Danziger of Unity Marketing says men's accessories, including jewelry, are experiencing a boom.
"Men’s purchases are tied to increased interest in their own appearance," she says. "Men feel more than ever the need to up their game."
The men's fashion industry as a whole took a hit a decade ago when casual business dressing became pervasive, and men began ditching suits and ties, traditional symbols of affluence or authority, for a more casual approach.
But now, due to intense competition in the job market, many men are rethinking their habit of wearing khakis to the office. Purchases include brief cases, but also jewelry, cufflinks, tie clasps and rings. Men are buying more "beauty" products, too, and getting their eyebrows waxed.
AMC's "Mad Men," -- which Sunday night won outstanding TV drama for the third year in a row -- has also sparked an interest in dressing up for work, as a tribute to the sleek, dapper and buttoned-up attire of the 1960s ad guys in New York.
