Authorities have arrested five people in connection with a series of robberies of traveling jewelry salespersons in the Dallas, TX, area, the Jewelers' Security Alliance reports. The gunpoint robberies occurred between April and June 2016. In one robbery a salesperson jumped partially into the open window of the suspects’ car, trying to grab back his case. However, the suspects drove away with him hanging out the window, and he was eventually found dead by the side of the road. John Parker, U.S Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, called the five suspects an “extremely dangerous group of robbers” that are “part of a larger, organized South American theft group that has targeted members of the jewelry industry across this nation for a number of years.”

Police say a Miami, FL, man tried to buy jewelry from Kay Jewelers in Canton, GA, using fraudulent identification. Joseph Vanucci has been arrested on a felony count of theft by deception, along with other charges, the Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News reports. Police say the jewelry he tried to buy was valued at $5,000.
