120 Years of Magic

The 24 Karat Club of New York has announced the return of its annual banquet, to be held on Jan. 15, 2022 at NYC’s glamorous and recently renovated Cipriani South Street. The gala will mark the Club’s 120th anniversary.

Distant Socializing

Jewelers of America (JA) will hold both the 2021 GEM Awards and its National Convention virtually instead of in-person, in order to ensure the safety of its staff and attendees. The GEM Awards are scheduled for July 15, and the convention is scheduled for July 19-20.

The Gem Certification & Assurance Lab (GCAL) has announced the industry’s first major change in diamond cut grading in decades. Their new cut grading standard, GCAL 8X, focuses on eight aspects of cut quality, with all eight required for a grade of Excellent.

Ease of Inspection

Jewelers Mutual Group will now offer virtual inspections to their commercially insured jewelers as part of the underwriting process. The innovation was inspired by the increase in digital capability seen in the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic and uses self-service technology to make the process easy and convenient.

Going Out of Business Is an Emotional Journey. Wilkerson Is There to Make It Easier.

Jaki Cowan, the owner of Sollberger’s in Ridgeland, MS, decided the time was right to close up shop. The experience, she says, was like going into the great unknown. There were so many questions about the way to handle the store’s going-out-of-business sale. Wilkerson even had a plan to manage things while Covid-19 restrictions were still in place. This included limiting the number of shoppers, masking and taking temperatures upon entrance. “We did everything we could to make the staff and public feel as safe as possible.”

Does she recommend Wilkerson to other retailers thinking of retiring, liquidating or selling excess merchandise? Absolutely. “If you are considering going out of business, it’s obviously an emotional journey. But truly rest assured that you’re in good hands with Wilkerson.”
