AUSTRALIAN WRITER, DIRECTOR and producer Baz Luhrmann is the master of modern dreamlike films that play with the perception of reality with mashups of contemporary and historical references — music, costumes and sets. He is best known for his lavish original films Moulin Rouge and, more recently, Elvis, as well as remakes and adaptations: Romeo & Juliet and The Great Gatsby, among other movies and TV series. He has been deeply involved in the props, costumes, jewelry and every detail of the films in additional to his other roles.

So it’s not unusual for him to be spotted in a piece of jewelry that bears discussion, which was the case at the prelude to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where he was photographed with style guru Anna Wintour. The large, three-dimensional 18K yellow gold initial pendant and chain were designed by Marie Lichtenberg, who has become a darling of the jewelry community with her enameled locket clasps, secret compartments with meaningful, witty, sentimental and inspirational phrases and her tongue-in-cheek rings that open to reveal surprise elements. Her approach to design is also a mashup of old and new and focuses on  iconic memories, musical influences and other elements dating back in history. So it was befitting for Luhrmann to wear one of her pieces. He wore the personalized letter pendant — B for Baz — on Lichtenberg’s 18K gold and diamond Gourmette chain.

The pendant was just casual enough to be worn over his denim blue shirt and tie yet created a collision of classic initials and over-the top statement styles.
