“Where Jewellery Begins”

The new tagline for the Vicenzaoro Jewellery Boutique Show’s January edition pretty much wrote itself.

The jewelry, gem and watch show – the first of the calendar year now that the SIHH (recently renamed Watches & Wonders Geneva) has moved to April – is held twice annually in the northeastern city of Vicenza in the Veneto region of Italy.

The show houses a variety of jewelry genres set up in various “districts,” offering buyers and journalists from across the globe a glimpse into what’s hot now as well as what’s up next.

Following are ten of the most gorgeous pieces (jewels AND watches) to have come out of the January edition of the Vicenzaoro fair.

Dreamboule Classic Collection Octopus Ring

Statement rings were out in full force at the 2020 edition of Vicenzaoro January, with no brand creating a bigger bang than Dreamboule, located in the fair’s Design Center. Using a domed cabochon sapphire crystal and 18K gold base, Dreamboule’s 28mm “Octopus” ring from its Classic line shows off a diamond-set sea creature fixed against a mother-of-pearl ocean floor while gold flakes dance in constant motion, creating a snow globe effect. The ring contains approximately 2.17 carats total of both white and champagne brilliant cut diamonds and nearly thirty-six grams of 18K gold.

Cédille Paris Into the Wild Fox Ring

Also trending at the decade’s first jewelry fair were adornments made into, featuring, or depicting animals. Cédille Paris’ “Into the Wild” collection included a fox ring made of 18K pink gold and embellished with white diamonds, marquise-shaped rubies, and black and white enamel inlay.

Lydia Courtielle La Vie en Rose Titanium Earrings

There are very few pieces designed by French jewelry designer Lydia Courtielle that do not make an impact on those who set their eyes upon them. Her creations are majestic, and each story that accompanies them is as colorful as the jewels themselves. These playful “La Vie en Rose” earrings
showcased at Vicenzaoro are created using 18K rose gold, peachy morganite, colored sapphires and pink titanium, making us all want to live a life “en rose.”

SICIS Jewels Aura Eos Ring

Milan-based SICIS Jewels brought a fresh feeling to Vicenza while using an age-old Italian technique: mosaic. Or rather, in the case of the brand’s “Aura Eos” ring, micromosaic. The 18K white gold ring comprises a rainbow of micromosaics trimmed in bead set white diamonds in a fan-like fashion while surrounding an oval cabochon rubellite center.

Vincent Calabrese Fl’Ora Watch

The rose was a common theme amongst jewelry houses this year, but for watchmakers, it proved unique. For the first time, Vicenzaoro opened a separate section of its fair called “VO Vintage” where, aside from vintage jewelry dealers, an attendee could also visit with independent watchmakers like Vincent Calabrese. Calabrese’s “Fl’Ora” ladies’ stainless steel timepiece in 40mm is a jumping hour watch using an ETA 2892A2 movement that allows for the rose’s color to change at the start of each new hour.

Picchiotti Essentially Color Ring in Orange Tourmaline

As mentioned before, big, bold rings made a huge impact at this year’s show, which was a refreshing change from the delicate, stackable bands that have been popular for the last several years. Italian luxury brand Picchiotti – who has always walked to the beat of their own drum – made a trendsetting statement by way of using a nearly seven-carat orange-peach tourmaline as the star of a new piece introduced into their “Essentially Color” collection.

Roberto Coin Rock & Diamonds Earrings

There are those considered to be icons of the jewelry world, and then there is one man who stands all on his own: Roberto Coin. Still going strong well into his 70s, Coin can be found every year at the Vicenzaoro show, mingling with his devoted buyers and showing off his most recent work. This year’s additions to his “Rock & Diamonds” collection included edgy geometrical earrings made in 18K rose gold, white diamonds, and sugarloaf-shaped black jade.

Giovanni Ferraris Titanium Floral Ring

Alternative metals such as titanium were having their day in the Italian sun, and this pale bluish-green, diamond and aquamarine floral “Titanium” collection ring by Italian designer Giovanni Ferraris was no exception. Ferraris’ titanium jewelry is eye-catching and awe-inspiring in both bright and muted colors of the lightweight metal which is often set with both colored gemstones as well as diamonds.

Gismondi Rose Gold Noi Bracelet

While colorful statement rings and fantasy-themed earrings ruled the beautiful booth-filled rows in Vicenza, there was also something to be said for simplicity, which is exactly what this “Noi” collection bracelet by Gismondi exemplifies. This elegantly crafted cuff is available in high-polished 18K rose gold and white brilliant cut diamonds
