MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Bromberg’s, Alabama’s oldest family business, is undergoing what its president calls the largest renovation of its Mountain Brook store since the building opened in 1959, a project expected to nearly double its retail space in Mountain Brook Village.

Construction fencing went up in early 2026 outside the 67-year-old building on the Village’s newly roundabout-configured streets. The store will remain open throughout the work, with parking continuing off Hollywood Blvd., according to Birmingham, AL-based news website Bham Now.

The renovation will preserve the building’s original mid-century modern shell while expanding into an adjacent building, Bham Now reported. Planned upgrades include fresh stone finishes with bronze exterior accents, a larger showroom with gem and precious metal inspired interiors, a dedicated Bromberg Galleries space for giftware and home decor, an expanded custom design center and customer lounge, and an authorized Rolex service center.

The project is being led by Henry Sprott Long and Associates, the same Birmingham architecture firm that designed the original 1959 building and oversaw renovations in 1971 and the early 1990s.
“It will literally be a brand new store in an old shell,” Bromberg’s President Ricky Bromberg told Bham Now. “It’s going to be one of the most attractive jewelry stores in the country.”

Bromberg added: “We always try to stay current. We do this (renovation) about once a generation and we’ve had several of them over the course of time since 1959 when the store was built. But this one is the biggest of all.”

Completion is expected in early 2027.
