(PRESS RELEASE) CITIZEN is launching two new limited-edition models from its ATTESA collection equipped with the latest technologies, expressing the ethereal beauty of the red blood moon produced during a total lunar eclipse.

Ahead of the total lunar eclipse which will be visible across Japan at 8:04 p.m. on March 3, 2026, CITIZEN will release limited-edition “Shades of Red” models inspired by the red moon seen during totality. Based on a flagship model equipped with CITIZEN’s Cal.F950, the ultimate movement for Eco-Drive satellite wave GPS watches*1, and a model powered by the Cal.H874 movement featuring “Luna Program”*2, CITIZEN’s fully automatic analog moon phase function, these timepieces express the otherworldly beauty of the blood moon, produced when the Sun, Earth and Moon are in alignment, through advanced technology and refined design.

The CC4077-71Z achieves a wine-red dial with both depth and brilliance by layering a red-tinted moon motif over a mother-of-pearl base. The inner side of the sapphire bezel ring is finished in two layers of vapor deposition, adding silver city names to a dark red base. The entire dial is encircled by a deep red sapphire glass ring bezel, giving the watch a truly distinctive presence. The BY1005-73Z precisely recreates the fantastical and beautiful blood moon by layering red metal electrodeposition and printing on the disc hand that indicates the lunar phases. Pearlescent printing on the night-sky background highlights the shimmering sparkle of a starry, jetblack sky. A lower dial featuring a raised-inkjet moon texture is layered with an upper dial and metal elements, imparting it with striking depth and sophistication.

Product Features

Citizen Debuts Additional Eco-Drive Models in Landmark 50th Year of Innovation

  1. Eco-Drive is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries. Certified as an Eco Mark product for the first time in the watch industry. GPS satellite-synchronized watches receive date and time signals sent by GPS satellites from space — orbiting 20,000 kilometers above the Earth — bringing ultra-precise timekeeping to wherever you are on the face of the globe.
  2. A fully automatic analog moon phase function. Calculates the moon phase for each day based on date information from the watch’s perpetual calendar to automatically display the current moon phase on the dial.
  3. Super Titanium is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with surface hardening technology. It is at least 5 times harder than stainless steel, resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle to the skin for comfortable wearing.
  4. Duratect DLC:Duratect is CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology that enhances the surface hardness of metals such as stainless steel and titanium, protecting watch bodies from scratches and damage. This technology offers excellent abrasion quality and maintains the luster of metals for long periods of time. Duratect DLC achieves Vickers hardness of 1,000-1,400 by creating an amorphous carbon hard film—mainly composed of carbon and hydrogen—on the surface of the material.
  5. Anti-reflective coating: A multi-layered coating applied to the glass. The coating reduces the reflection of light from the surface of the glass that makes the dial easier to see.
  6. Light-level Indicator detects and displays the intensity of light striking the dial (which generates the electricity to run the watch) in seven levels, allowing wearers to easily gauge the charge level in any given situation.
  7. The perpetual calendar is a fully automatic calendar control function that automatically adjusts the end of each month, including in leap years, until February 28, 2100.
  8. Eco-Drive Radio-Controlled: Eco-Drive is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries. Certified as an Eco Mark product for the first time in the watch industry. Radio-controlled watches receive signals from radio transmitters to correct the time and calendar automatically.
