DAKOTA JOHNSON IS SOMETHING of a chameleon when it comes to fashion and jewelry. She can pull off dazzling diamonds and gowns, streamlined looks with edgy jewels and casual chic in tees or white shirts and jeans with colored gemstone pieces, plus numerous other styles. Her most recent sighting, at the The Room Next Door event held Nov. 16 at CAA in Los Angeles, was styled by guru Kate Young, who also works with Julianne Moore and allows her celebrity clients to shine in what you would imagine they would choose for themselves — the mark of a great stylist.
Johnson wore a gown by Khaite NY that featured an off-the-shoulder fitted silhouette with a true statement jewel by Lisa Eisner Jewelry.
Eisner’s bio says she has been a a magazine editor, a photographer, a book publisher and a jewelry designer. It’s career route I can relate to, having been a photo stylist and fashion/beauty writer, wardrobe stylist for TV, memoirist, jewelry designer and jewelry journalist and author. The bio also states: “Inspired by literally every beautiful thing, person, flower, animal, and rock she’d ever encountered, Lisa launched her first handmade jewelry collection in 2014 and has continued to build on it from there. She continues to be influenced by the American West — whether it’s turquoise that comes from a long-since closed mine in Arizona, the inky black jade of her home state of Wyoming, or a strange, fossilized specimen from an old rock hound — each stone is hand selected and then set in bronze or gold.”
Her one-of-a-kind pieces are often ultra large, gutsy statement pieces like the oversized embellished claw pendant on black cord that Johnson wore to the event.
Although Johnson has a thin frame, the piece with the off-the shoulder dress did not overwhelm her. She carried it perfectly with her loose long hair and natural glow.
The piece also speaks to the amulet or talisman type pieces we have been seeing in the market with either found ancient objects or newer ones that are being designed as singular pieces — bigger, bolder and often times meaningful.
