4 EASTER is a good time to dig into the growing religious jewelry trend, which ranges from cross necklaces and saint medals to personalization and non-Christian talismans such as the evil eye, hamsa, lotus flower and other representations of people’s beliefs. And don’t forget the kids, says Megan Crabtree, CEO of Crabtree Consulting. “Have a basket of eggs at the front door with treats in them. It is the small things that make a world of difference,” she says.

5 It’s NATIONAL DEEP-DISH PIZZA DAY. Spring for pizza for your team and share on social media. This creates a genuine and non-intimidating view of your company for any potential customers who see the post.

5 The MASTERS TOURNAMENT in Augusta, GA, begins today. Create a contest with your staff for what you consider to be a “hole in one” over the four days of the event.

11 Today is BARBERSHOP QUARTET DAY as well as INTERNATIONAL LOUIE LOUIE DAY. If you’re torn between which kind of music to play in your store, we’re not sure we’d attend a party at your place.

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
