AFTER BINGE-WATCHING some old seasons of Sex and the City and a few episodes from the first two seasons of And Just Like That…, I’m feeling a bit disappointed with Season 3 so far.

I’ve chronicled the iconic jewelry that Sarah Jessica Parker, as Carrie Bradshaw, made famous and turned into trends since the original series began — in numerous articles.

This season, the outfits are kookier. Just look at Nicole Ari Parker’s character, Lisa Todd Wexley, wearing a Wilma Flintstone–style oversized beaded necklace paired with a riot of prints. Even Sarah Jessica Parker’s looks, though pulled from some of the most influential runways, feel more haphazard and don’t work the way they used to.

Then there is Kristin Davis’s Charlotte, who is back in preppy mode but not in the feminine, empowered way she began to shine last season.

The character whose jewelry and clothes truly become part of her persona this season is Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel — although, so far, I’ve only been able to identify one bracelet she’s wearing.
I’ve seen glimpses of future episodes on Harper’s Bazaar’s website — photos taken during filming on the streets of Manhattan — that feature some much more inspirational jewelry moments.

None, however, seem likely to ignite trends the way they once did — though it may still be too early to tell.

For now, let’s focus on Sarah Jessica Parker — what she wore to the photo call and one of my favorite pieces of jewelry from Episode 1.

Fred Leighton and Nikos Koulis provided the jewels for the photo call, which looked spectacular paired with her custom navy Vivienne Westwood corset-style tea-length dress, purchased at auction from Westwood’s personal collection at Christie’s. She mixes the ultra-modern feel of Koulis’ gunmetal aluminum, white gold, and diamond necklace with Fred Leighton’s 19th-century diamond fleur-de-lis earrings, a 19th-century diamond flower brooch worn in her hair, and a 1920s natural pearl and silver ring.

She keeps the momentum going when, during Episode 1 of Season 3, she dons Briony Raymond’s pearl and diamond Confetti Plume Earrings.

In episode 2, Charlotte and Lisa both wear pearl necklaces, in keeping with the storyline.

Strands of pearls seem to be big in Season 3, with Carrie wearing them in at least three episodes. Here she is wearing Yutai Fine Jewelry’s Sectional Pearl Necklace with Akoya pearls and opal and moonstone beads.

And here, another strand of beads with a Viviane Westwood ensemble.

While combing the pages of Bazaar, I noticed in photos of the shoot in New York a few recognizable jewels as the season continues. Charlotte wears an Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. Bone Cuff in sterling silver, Seema wears an Alexis Bittar Serpent Brooch and Carrie seems to be wearing some other Fred Leighton earrings, although it’s hard to be sure on that one. Carries is in pearls again, worn with the blues of a denim skirt and a shawl and tailored jacket.

From what I can tell, the fashion and jewels get better with time, like the heirloom jewels we inherit. Only the next episodes will tell.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
