Gembridge Launches “Phenomenal Gems” Collection That Give Unusual Optical Effects

(PRESS RELEASE) Digital gemstone trading platform Gembridge has launched a unique collection of “phenomenal” gemstones that feature extraordinary optical effects (click here for more info).

The “Phenomenal Gems” collection comprises phenomena such as :

  • “Chatoyancy” or “cat’s eye effect” in cat’s eye Chrysoberyl;
  • “Asterism” in Corundum;
  • “Change of color” in various gemstones, mainly Sapphires, Alexandrites and Garnets.

“The title of this collection says it all: some stones interact with light in ways that give them unusual optical effects, or phenomena,” says Commercial Director Jean Jureidini.

“There are phenomenal gems at all market levels and budgets.”

Having a gemstone that exhibits a “phenomenon” adds rarity and value to jewelry, and is sometimes given esoteric meanings and worn as an amulet.

Such gems are sought after by connoisseurs and gem collectors.

Please find below Jean Jureidini’s selection of highlights from the “Phenomenal Gems” collection:

  • “Lot 23173: A rare variety of Chrysoberyl, this pair of untreated Alexandrites from Brazil exhibit an amazing “change of color” phenomenon. From bluish green in daylight, to purple in incandescent light. An ideal pair perfectly suitable to adorn a pair of earrings, or to be the centre stones of a bespoke “toi et moi” ring. A true connoisseur choice for any jewelry lover.
  • “Lot 21169: An exceptionally large (120.25 cts) pair of “no heat” round blue Sapphires with distinct Trapiche Asterism pattern from southern Vietnam. This phenomenon commonly found in Emeralds is comparatively rare in Corundum and especially in Sapphires. A “must have” for any gem collector.
  • “Lot 2138:  Birthstone of the month of September, this 14.47cts Ceylon oval cabochon blue Sapphire, interestingly exhibits an Asterism phenomenon when viewed from directly above. With its six bright rays of equal length, this gem is ideal as the centre stone of a statement ring. Also commonly worn as a “status symbol” by many men in Asia.
  • “Lot 005: “FOR THOSE WHO KNOW”: Exceptional in size and quality, this one-of-a-kind 143.33cts untreated “color change ” Garnet from Tanzania is really one of nature’s wonders that every genuine collector would love to treasure as part of his collection. Even though this stunning gem is ideally made to be the centre stone of a high-end jewelry necklace, I would rather see it as a museum piece due to its rarity.”

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
