GRAMMY Weekend Celebration Announced with Special Performance

(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK – Bulova and the Recording Academy announce a new Special Edition GRAMMY timepiece to be gifted to this year’s first-time GRAMMY Award recipients.

To kick off GRAMMY weekend, Bulova and the Recording Academy, will host a special music event at the GRAMMY Museum celebrating the power of music and the launch of the new commemorative timepiece.

The Special Edition GRAMMY watch features a percussion design stainless steel case and black silicone strap with stainless steel fret-style inserts. It’s finished with a gold-tone crown along with a gold-tone dial made of GRAMMIUM — a custom alloy developed by John Billings, the craftsman who creates, by hand, the lustrous gold gramophone statue that is presented to GRAMMY recipients.

Chaka Khan

The private event set to take place on Saturday, February 9th, will feature a special performance by the Queen of Funk herself, Chaka Khan. Considered one of the world’s most gifted and celebrated musicians, Khan’s career spans nearly five decades, selling an estimated 70 million records worldwide. Khan has received twenty two GRAMMY nominations and has won ten GRAMMY Awards, influencing generations of recording artists.

This year, Khan will release her first new album in twelve years titled, “Hello Happiness,” featuring her new single, “Like Sugar,” re-introducing her signature sound to audiences of all ages.

“Keeping in line with our ‘History of Firsts’ ethos, we are honored to continue creating personal mementos recognizing first-time GRAMMY Award winners for their hard work and dedication to their craft,” said Michael Benavente, managing director of Bulova. “To have an icon like Chaka Khan help us celebrate this and our ongoing relationship with the Recording Academy is truly a privilege.”

“We are thrilled to continue this very special partnership with the iconic Bulova brand as we present first-time GRAMMY Award Winners with a uniquely-crafted, exclusive, Special Edition GRAMMY Timepiece,” said Evan Greene, chief marketing officer for the Recording Academy. “This is yet another example of how together, we create innovative ways to celebrate music’s cultural impact and its ability to inspire.”
