What’s the 2023 version of a 60-inch screen showing the local college game? It may well be an electric car charger. The offer of a free charge gets people in the doors for an hour or so while they wait. Among our recent America’s Coolest Stores to have installed chargers are Carter’s Jewel Chest in Mountain Home, AR, and Julz by Alan Rodriguez in Canton, OH, both of which were the first in their communities to do so. “Regular visitors spend up to an hour charging their vehicle and coming into the store, even just to say hi,” says Chris Carter of Carter’s Jewel Chest. “The EV charger also sends the positive marketing message that our business is eco-conscious and committed to our values.”

It Was Time to Make a Decision. It Was Time to Call Wilkerson.

Except for a few years when he worked as an accountant, Jim Schwartz has always been a jeweler. He grew up in the business and after “counting beans” for a few years, he and his wife, Robin, opened Robin James Jewelers in Cincinnati, Ohio. “We were coming to a stage in our life where we knew we have to make a decision,” says Jim Schwartz. He and Robin wanted to do it right, so they called Wilkerson. The best surprise (besides surpassing sales goals)? “The workers and associations really care about helping us move out own inventory out of the store first. It was very important to us.”
