How to Handle Food Celebration Days In Your Jewelry Store

The calendar features a ton of food (and drink) days and you simply cannot celebrate them all. (April alone has 29 food and drink-related holidays, including National Caramel Popcorn Day, National Glazed Spiral Ham Day and National Zucchini Bread Day.)

Here’s how to use these days to both have fun with your employees and boost your business:

  • IGNORE: The large majority of times, you will ignore the food holiday. Again, there are SO many.
  • POST ON SOCIAL: Other times, especially when you enjoy a specific food, you can use your social media channel to note the day and share your favorite recommendation for the celebrated food type. For example, in the case of waffles, you might post: “Happy Waffle Day, everybody! One of my FAVORITE waffle places in town is Wild Waffles on Main Street. Delightfully decadent. My top rec — the Nutella-banana waffles with caramelized hazelnuts!” Tag Wild Waffles if you can. In this way, you share valuable and timely info with your followers, while also putting your jewelry store on the radar of another business (Wild Waffles) and its employees. Win-win. Like this idea and want to do even more? Share the list of food holidays with your staff, and then they select THEIR favorites and promote with recommendations on your social channels on the relevant day.
  • CELEBRATE WITH STAFF: Once in a while (as time and waistlines permit), you can celebrate a favorite food day with your team. In these cases, purchase the best and yummiest available in your town (or import from another state or even country if warranted) to enjoy a memorable eating experience with your staff. (Greatest has an upcoming column on the importance of these bonding moments for a team.)
  • HOST A STORE EVENT: One final option, reserved for favorite categories of food or drink, is to consider a store event to celebrate a specific day with customers. (This could be a co-promotion you organize in conjunction with a restaurant, bakery or winery.)

Family Legacy, New Chapter: How Wilkerson Turns 89 Years of History Into Future Success

After 89 years of serving the Albany community, Harold Finkle Your Jeweler faced a pivotal decision. For third-generation owner Justin Finkle, the demanding hours of running a small business were taking precious time away from his young family. "After 23 years, I decided this was the time for me," Finkle explains. But closing a business with nearly nine decades of inventory and customer relationships isn't something easily managed alone. Wilkerson's comprehensive approach transformed this challenging transition into a remarkable success story. Their strategic planning handled everything from advertising and social media to inventory management and staffing — elements that would overwhelm most jewelers attempting to navigate a closing sale independently. The results speak volumes. "Wilkerson gave us three different tiers of potential goals," Finkle notes. "We've reached that third tier, that highest goal already, and we still have two weeks left of the sale." The partnership didn't just meet financial objectives—it exceeded them ahead of schedule.
