I once had a client bring in a stone asking if we could drill a hole in it and add a bail. When my goldsmith began to drill into the stone, it gave o a terrible odor. It was a soft stone and easy to drill through, so the job was completed. None of us could figure out what the stone could be, so when the client came to pick up her new charm, we had to ask. Come to find out it was a kidney stone she had surgically removed. I guess we should have asked the stone’s origin prior to taking it in.
