(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK — The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest independent gemological laboratory, announced Yates & Co as its Jewelers On A Mission campaign awardee. Yates & Co will be mentored by IGI and work with SCS Global Services (SCS) to actively offset their carbon emissions, beginning with an evaluation of greenhouse gas output.

“Utilizing ethically sourced materials for our fine jewelry has always been top priority and continues to be, but we are ready to do more,” said Yates & Co Jewelers Store Manager Ashton Yates-Woolley. “With the help of IGI and SCS we will transform our operations, furthering our environmental stewardship.”

IGI believes the environment is interdependent and every organization has a role to play. It is crucial that the gemological community answer world leaders’ calls to prevent further climate change and protect the planet, which is why the Institute created its community of jewelers dedicated to sustainability.

“We are thrilled by the passionate responses from jewelers seeking to advance their environmental efforts,” said IGI North America President Avi Levy. “We recognize that taking on carbon neutrality and other best practices may be challenging to implement; as a leader, we are determined to take what we have learned and empower others to take action where they can.”

Yates & Co has been serving the Modesto, Calif. area since 1988 with fine jewelry selections. The company started by selling rare coins, heirloom jewelry and diamonds from private individuals and estates. Today, the jeweler is known for its custom bridal and recycled vintage jewelry. To date, the company has connected with customers across the U.S. and 27 countries around the world.

Wilkerson Testimonials

Wilkerson: “They Feel Like Family”

Newton’s Jewelers in Fort Smith, Ark., was a true institution. But after being at the helm for most of his life, owner (and descendent of the original founder) Kelly Newton decided it was time to retire. He chose Wilkerson to handle the sale. “I’ve known the owners of Wilkerson for a long, long time. I felt at home with them,” he says. The final retirement sale was just a “blast” and the Wilkerson sales team made it so very simple and straightforward, says Newton. Would he recommend Wilkerson to others? Absolutely. “They’ve done incredible work,” says Newton. “They feel like family.”
