Jeweler Killed During Violent Home Invasion in Michigan

Hussein Murray

A Michigan jeweler was killed after two men posing as utility workers invaded his home. Two suspects are in custody.

Two men came to the Rochester Hills home of Hussein Murray, 72, on Oct. 10 and claimed they were checking for gas leaks, the Jewelers’ Security Alliance reported in a bulletin. They wore high-visibility vests and claimed to work for an energy company based in Detroit.

They did not gain access to the house that night, but they returned to the home the following day around noon, at which time they were allowed into the home. Murray’s wife told police that Murray brought the men into the basement to check for the purported gas leak.

Police later arrived at the scene and found Murray’s wife tied up with duct tape. The suspects had allegedly hit her in the face and asked her where the money and jewelry were, JSA reported. They allegedly took the woman’s phone and watch.

Officers found Murray’s body in the basement, where he was duct-taped. He had died as a result of his injuries, according to JSA. Murray was the owner of Gold & Glitter jewelry in Hamtramck.

Family Legacy, New Chapter: How Wilkerson Turns 89 Years of History Into Future Success

After 89 years of serving the Albany community, Harold Finkle Your Jeweler faced a pivotal decision. For third-generation owner Justin Finkle, the demanding hours of running a small business were taking precious time away from his young family. "After 23 years, I decided this was the time for me," Finkle explains. But closing a business with nearly nine decades of inventory and customer relationships isn't something easily managed alone. Wilkerson's comprehensive approach transformed this challenging transition into a remarkable success story. Their strategic planning handled everything from advertising and social media to inventory management and staffing — elements that would overwhelm most jewelers attempting to navigate a closing sale independently. The results speak volumes. "Wilkerson gave us three different tiers of potential goals," Finkle notes. "We've reached that third tier, that highest goal already, and we still have two weeks left of the sale." The partnership didn't just meet financial objectives—it exceeded them ahead of schedule.
