Jewelers for Children Appoints Sara Murphy as Executive Director

Murphy replaces outgoing executive director David Rocha.

(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK — Jewelers for Children announces that Sara Murphy has been appointed executive director as of October 24, 2023. Murphy replaces outgoing executive director David Rocha.

Murphy comes to JFC with nearly 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, most recently at the Anti-Violence Project. She brings wide-ranging experience in fundraising, event planning and organizational management. Sara has worked extensively in board development and volunteer activities and has a passion for causes that help children.

“Sara brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to Jewelers for Children and we could not have found a better candidate to help grow the charity in the years ahead. said Jeffrey Cohen, JFC Board Chair. Her knowledge of non-profit organizations will allow her to immediately step into the role and continue to meet our mission of helping to enhance the lives of children.”

Murphy added, “I am honored to join Jewelers for Children and excited to build on the amazing work David has done over the last 19 years. The board of JFC is an incredible group of people ensuring that life changing funds go to children who need them most, and I look forward to working with them to continue and grow our impact.”

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
