From brooches to statement necklaces and diamonds galore, the Met Gala, which always takes place the first Monday in May, was a veritable feast for the eyes when it came to jewelry and how celebrity guests interpreted the theme of the evening, “Tailored For You.” As always, the theme for the gala left room for creative interpretation — in this case, menswear tailoring and suitings that will be on display as part of Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s exhibition. For 2025, the exhibition is entitled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and is partly inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Miller is a guest curator of the exhibit with the Costume Institute’s curator in charge, Andrew Bolton. The exhibit features a cultural and historical look at Black style and dandyism, which dates to the 18th century. It is the first exhibit to focus exclusively on designers of color. As for the gala, the turnout couldn’t have been more star-studded, with big names from arenas such as film, music and sports.

Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, longtime chair of the gala, wore an antique Briony
Raymond diamond riviere and a jaw-dropping brooch that I have yet to figure out. Her co-chairs — LeBron James along with Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo — all wore awe-inspiring jewelry as well. Domingo paid homage to Andre Leon Talley with a blue Valentino cape when he first arrived.

The men looked dapper and interpreted the dandy theme with multiple brooches, as did many of the women who attended the event. I had a more difficult time choosing who would be featured in our roundup of the event than usual. But here are the picks for best bejeweled, in keeping with the theme.

STORY By Beth Bernstein

Dashing Dandies

A$AP Rocky was one of my favorite men of the evening, bedecked in multiple antique and vintage jewels from BRIONY RAYMOND and a BULGARI High Jewelry necklace. He also carried a diamond-encrusted umbrella from Briony Raymond.

Dashing Dandies

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was another favorite in a cream-colored custom Wales Bonner suit with Briony Raymond jewels. These included a 1980s natural white, yellow and pink diamond brooch pinned to his lapel, another brooch pinned to his hat, multiple rings and Asscher cut diamond stud earrings.

Dashing Dandies

Colman Domingo wore a Valentino royal blue cape with a metallic sequined bib and added a natural diamond Boucheron Iceberg necklace. He also wore a natural diamond ear climber.

Isn’t She Dandy?

Bulgari global brand ambassador Zendaya looked ultra chic in a white three-piece suit designed by Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton and a hat that suited her perfectly. She highlighted the look with a preview of Bulgari’s Polychroma High Jewelry diamond serpent brooch brilliantly placed on her back, along with a diamond ring and fancy vivid yellow diamond studs.

Isn’t She Dandy?

Kerry Washington opted for an off- white hat and backless Simkhai number with Chopard diamond earrings and diamond chain worn draped down her back.

Isn’t She Dandy?

Andra Day went for a vibrant pink suit and Cartier La Panthère hair pick in 18K yellow gold, tsavorite, black lacquer and buffalo horn; Cartier High Jewelry necklace in 18K white gold, sapphires, diamonds and onyx; Panthère de Cartier bracelet in 18K white gold, diamonds, emeralds and onyx; and two Panthère de Cartier rings.

Isn’t She Dandy?

Aimee Lou Wood wore an asymmetrical menswear look with Reflection de Cartier earrings in 18K white gold and diamonds; a Cartier Collection brooch, Paris, circa 1939 in white gold and diamonds; and two Cartier rings

Bring on the Brooch

Chance The Rapper was covered in Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. brooches on the left side of his jacket, which gave new meaning to the term man brooch. Other guys who wore brooches in multiples included Leon Bridges in Saidian Vintage Jewels, Nick Jonas in Tiffany & Co., Adrien Brody and Jeff Goldblum.

Bring on the Brooch

Sarah Snook went for a range of antique and vintage brooches from Saidian Vintage Jewels as well as fingers full of rings. As a fan of groups of brooches worn all together, I found this awe-inspiring.

Making a Statement

Anne Hathaway has become an iconic style-setter. She wore Carolina Hererra while debuting a High Jewelry Bulgari necklace. As an ambassador for the brand, Hathaway donned the Bulgari Cosmic Vault featuring a 123.35-carat sugarloaf sapphire and diamonds. She also wore a variety of the brand’s High Jewelry rings.

Making a Statement

Priyanka Chopra, global ambassador for Bulgari, unveiled another piece that was jaw- dropping, The Magnus Emerald Necklace, with one of the largest and most exquisite precious stones in the world, an emerald of 241.06 carats. It’s the largest faceted stone ever set by Bulgari. She also wore other pieces from the new collection.

Making a Statement

Miley Cyrus was another star who stole the spotlight in an 18K yellow gold Cartier Collection necklace, circa 1988, among other Cartier pieces.

Making a Statement

Dua Lipa shone in a black Chanel gown with graduated Chanel High Jewelry diamond necklaces.

Gigi Hadid lit up the night in her glamourous take on the theme. She wore stunning De Beers diamond statement earrings to complete her look.
