The sighting: In addition to being considered the number one women’s singles tennis player in the world, Belarusian athlete Aryna Sabalenka is also a bit of a luxury influencer, known for her impeccable style and taste.
Sabalenka just announced her engagement to Brazilian entrepreneur Georgios Frangulis and yes, you need to see the ring.
The jewels: Sabalenka’s engagement ring is a 12-carat oval diamond solitaire in platinum. It is a bespoke jewel by Isabela Grutman of Isabela Grutman Jewelry, designer and friend of the bride-to-be.
The ring’s shank is unusual, with an inward curve adorned with sparkling micro-pavé diamonds. The gallery of the ring holds a surprise as well: it’s covered in vibrant green emeralds, the tennis star’s favorite colored gemstone.
The designer said the custom ring took months to perfect and said that the emeralds are “a personal touch that makes [Sabalenka’s] ring uniquely hers.”
InStyle quotes Pamela Catlett, chief brand officer at Brilliant Earth, as estimating the ring’s likely worth around $1 million for a natural diamond. Kristy Cullinane of Plum Diamonds told Page Six that she places the ring’s value at $750,000+ for a natural diamond or around $25,000 if it’s a lab grown diamond.
The trends: Oval center stones have been big in celebrity engagement rings for the past few years, but this ring pushes the envelope with its thicker, curved shank and emerald accented gallery.
It supports the elongated diamond trend and also reflects the rise of sculptural jewelry, but more than that, it supports the “getting a unique engagement ring that fits your personality” trend.
What do we think? I’m still a little tired of so many celebrities choosing oval diamonds for their engagement rings, but this ring – with its sleek but edgy design, bright accent emeralds, and extra long oval – make the trend feel brand new again.
This ring is chic, eye-catching, modern, and luxurious. It’s everything I want from a high profile athlete’s engagement to a wealthy businessman.
Judgement: 14/10 for this oval stunner.
