The sighting: Actress Demi Moore walked the 2024 Met Gala red carpet in an ensemble that incorporated stunning shapes, vibrant colors, and extraordinary jewelry. To my great delight, I have learned that the jewelry came first for once – the A-lister’s Harris Reed gown was created to complement her Cartier jewels.

The jewels: Moore’s Met Gala jewels are all Cartier, from the brand’s Nature Sauvage high jewelry collection. The collection hasn’t even officially launched – it is scheduled to be released at the end of May – and Demi Moore has been the only person to wear any of the designs publicly so far.

According to Vogue, this is the Cartier Nature Sauvage Chloris necklace and earrings, named for the Greek nymph Chloris, goddess of spring. The necklace contains 7.87 carats of emeralds accented with platinum and diamond encrusted spirals, while the earrings feature 2.25 carats of emeralds. Both jewels are inspired by the look of dandelion seeds being swept away in the wind.

Close-ups of the necklace appear to reveal some yellow stones accenting the end of the piece, but there were no yellow gems mentioned in the descriptions I could find.

The trends: This jewelry ensemble bucks a major trend by being a matching necklace and earrings – we’ve seen a lot of bare lobes and clavicles at recent celebrity events, while pairing this substantial necklace and earrings together defies that convention.

But that’s the only thing about it that isn’t on trend: the green gems, the way the design plays with volume, the fact that the earrings are large studs rather than dangles, it all lines up with what we’ve been seeing for 2024.

What do we think? What’s not to love?? I’m extremely into the colors of the Cartier set – and the way that these three-dimensionally oriented pieces take up space with the little platinum and diamond spirals that extend into the air is so glamorous and interesting.

I absolutely love that the designer chose to make the accompanying gown in contrasting colors, rather than going with a neutral. The Harris Reed gown in shades of black, green, and pink is actually duchesse silk adorned with massive pink peonies salvaged from deadstock wallpaper.

The whole thing is visually gorgeous and the more I learn about it, the more I love it.

Judgement: 16/10 for a fantastic jewelry-led look.
