The sighting: Model Isabeli Fontana turned heads on the Cannes red carpet in a long black gown and magnificent feather brooch by Elsa Jin.

The jewels: That incredible brooch adorning Isabeli Fontana’s clavicle is by Elsa Jin, a jewelry artist from China who specializes in this type of showstopping one-of-a-kind design.
Fontana is wearing “Life 2022,” one of a series of four feather brooches that Jin created to showcase different gems within large, elaborate diamond wings. This particular piece features a 71.83 carat emerald.

The trends: One might think this look is simply too large to be relevant as a trend, but bold surrealist jewels are having an undeniable red carpet moment. Just look at all the A-listers who have worn Schiaparelli to big events in the past few years: it’s an illustrious roster including Adele, Beyonce, Halsey, Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Lady Gaga

Elsa Jin just won a Couture award for a similar piece – it was deemed Best in Haute Couture, and I think it’s a well-deserved accolade. Just look at these wings!! Incredible.
Miss Cote D’Azur Lara Gautier actually wore the aquamarine brooch from this series on the Cannes red carpet a few days before this, but I think Isabeli Fontana’s styling is more exciting (see Gautier’s look here on Instagram).

What do we think? I love this. It’s a lot of look, but this is exactly the type of event where that’s appropriate. This is a design that could easily overwhelm, but the way that the brooch is perched right at Isabeli Fontana’s collarbone, with its textured diamond wings providing a shimmering contrast to the black dress’s severe cutouts, is simply thrilling.

Judgement: 14/10 for an exquisite jewel worn with great panache.

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
