The sighting: The legendary Jennifer Lopez, aka JLo, aka Jenny from the Block, has taken a new name and a new husband. Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck revealed her change in marital status on her website, OnTheJLo, and publicized the announcement with a gorgeous low-key selfie of herself in bed with a new wedding band on her finger.
The jewels: In her Instagram reveal, JLo is lounging in a cloud of pristine white bedding wearing no makeup, no clothes, and no jewelry except for her new wedding ring. The band is thick, perhaps slightly domed, made of lustrous white metal , and free of stones or other embellishment.
According to engagement ring specialists at UK retailer Steven Stone, the ring appears to be a simple but luxurious platinum band of approximately 6 mm, likely worth around $2,000. Neither Mr. or Mrs. Affleck have revealed any specific information about their new wedding rings, but they kept the details of JLo’s gorgeous green diamond engagement ring under wraps too, so I’m assuming we’ll probably never receive official confirmation of the wedding band’s specs.
Ben Affleck has proposed to his now-wife twice: first in 2002 with a magnificent Harry Winston pink diamond ring and again in 2022 with a staggeringly rare green diamond ring. JLo (or is she JAff now?) has been engaged six times and Steven Stone’s experts estimate her collection of engagement rings to be worth around $11.2 million.
What do we think? This wedding band is a surprisingly sleek piece for a superstar who has an established track record of loving sparkles and embellishment, but the understated yet luxurious ring feels somehow perfect for this later-in-life return to a former love, as does Jen and Ben’s low-key Vegas wedding.
For two such ultra-successful A-list celebs, choosing to keep things understated may actually be the ultimate in luxury and romance. While many celebrity weddings feel like a publicity circus, this one really just feels like two people in love who found their way back to each other after 19 years and decided to finally tie the knot.
Yes, I’m aware that I’m a hopeless romantic. But I think the evidence is there: why would glamour queen JLo choose a wedding band with no embellishment at all unless what she really cared about was the man she was marrying with it?
