The sighting: TV host, actress and designer Kelly Osbourne just announced her engagement to beau Sid Wilson! Wilson popped the question backstage with a custom ring during what was her father Ozzy Osbourne’s final performance with the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
The jewels: Kelly Osbourne’s ring is a custom-designed piece by Mouawad. The brand has posted a video of the ring’s design process with Pascal Mouawad and Sid Wilson on Instagram (see below).
The 18K yellow gold ring features a 2.5 carat white round brilliant-cut diamond in unusually wide bezel adorned with white and yellow diamonds and citrines in a honeycomb pattern, as well as several clusters of white diamonds that echo the shape of bees.
Apparently Osbourne’s fiancée calls her “Honeybee,” and the ring’s design is an homage to that sweet nickname. According to InStyle, the custom ring is estimated to be worth around $100,000.
The trends: Flora and fauna motifs are big right now in jewelry, as are colored diamonds, bezel settings and unique, personalized engagement rings, so this piece manages to hit several trends while still being an unusual celebrity engagement ring choice.
What do we think? You know I love a truly creative celebrity engagement ring and this one absolutely qualifies!! The pops of color, the unusual honeycomb pattern across the wide bezel, the bee-shaped embellishments! It’s so fun and I absolutely adore that the bee theme has such a sweetly sentimental meaning.
I do have to wonder if the edges of those little bee-shaped diamond clusters will get caught on things, but presumably Osbourne is a privileged enough member of hard rock royalty that she won’t need to do dishes or anything similar with this Mouawad stunner on her finger.
