The sighting: Lori Harvey, model and entrepreneur, appeared on her first Cannes red carpet looking radiant in a beautiful buttercup yellow gown accessorized with dazzling Messika diamond jewelry.

The jewels: Ms. Harvey is rocking the Messika High Jewelry Shards of Mirror necklace along with the brand’s Illusionistes diamond ear clips. On her hands, she wears the Messika Danseurs Aériens two finger ring and a large Messika diamond Toi & Moi ring.

All of these jewels have a style in common: they feel like fresh, slightly daring reinterpretations of classic styles. He necklace is almost a traditional diamond bib necklace, but the unexpected negative space in the front interrupts the pattern with a thrilling surprise. Instead of wearing diamond drop earrings or studs, Harvey subverts the expected again by wearing dangling diamond pears hung from double rows of further diamonds.

Model Sara Sampaio wore the same Messika High Jewelry Shards of Mirror necklace on the Cannes red carpet a few days later, but I liked Lori Harvey’s styling much better.

The trends: The most relevant trend here is the subversion of the expected by rethinking the classics. This is most obviously happening in pearls right now, but Gen Z does love to turn tradition on its head, so don’t expect this style mood to go away anytime soon.

Besides that, we have pear diamonds, statement necklaces, and Toi et Moi rings, all of which are popular right now.

What do we think? Lori Harvey said on Instagram that she felt like Belle in this outfit, and it really does have a modern, chic, updated Disney Princess vibe that I am extremely on board with. (Fun fact: my own senior prom ensemble was also a big, yellow Belle-inspired gown.) Her delicately ruffled strapless dress has a 1950’s party dress vibe, which sets a perfectly prim backdrop that lets the jewelry’s subverted classic feel truly shine. I love it all.

Judgement: 17/10!!! Pretty and sexy and stylish and glorious.

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
