The sighting: Superstar Rihanna and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, are expecting! The couple broke their big news by going for a stroll with the mom-to-be in a look that revealed her baby bump in high style.

The jewels: Rihanna’s pink Chanel coat opens to reveal a waterfall of necklaces with brightly colored beads, pearls, and a 1980’s Christian Lacroix cross above a multi-strand Chanel belt. The Lacroix cross was sourced from Archive Vintage and the long Chanel pearl necklace from Camilla Dietz Bergeron.

The singer is also wearing two of her favorite go-to jewels: a chunky vintage diamond ring from Briony Raymond and the customized Rolex King Midas watch by Patcharavipa.

The trends: Neck messes, the intentionally casual way of styling many necklaces together, have been the hottest thing in clavicle couture for a minute now. It’s the execution here that’s a striking departure from the norm, as we usually see lavish layering like this higher up on the torso. Add in the elaborate strands of Rihanna’s Chanel belt, and the majority of this jewelry look is focused much lower on the body than one would expect.

Do I think we’ll see hordes of people walking around in the winter with their coats unbuttoned and their bellies peeking out under tangles of high-end vintage jewelry? No. But maybe we’ll see a little more length in layered necklace looks an increased interest in jewelry-style belts.

What do we think? I find this to be a perfect celebrity moment. Rihanna had to know that paparazzi would be all over her the second she went outside showing a visible baby bump, so she orchestrated the moment on her own terms. Instead of draping herself in diamonds or flowers or wearing an elaborate formal outfit, she looks comfortable and casual…but with the volume turned up just enough that it’s still thrilling

Judgement: 14/10 for the ultimate in casually glamorous gestation

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
