The sighting: Actress and noted jewelry lover Michelle Yeoh recently attended the amfAR Gala at Cannes 2024 in an elegant black gown and a staggeringly gorgeous statement necklace that exemplifies several current jewelry trends.

The jewels: Here’s what we know about Michelle Yeoh’s necklace and earring combo: they are Mikimoto high jewelry, they involve pearls, and they’re so new that there’s almost no information about them on the internet.

The necklace is an extreme statement piece, bib-style, with an interlaced series of ribbon-like swags ending in bows and set with pearls and purple gemstones, culminating in one lager swag with the largest purple stone and also a single blue green stone.

The earrings appear to have the same ribbon bow motif at the top, with a pearl dangling beneath.

Based on my sleuthing, I’d say that the necklace appears to be an extension of Mikimoto’s Jeux de Rubans high jewelry collection, which is inspired by the joy and beauty of ribbons. The core materials of Mikimoto’s Jeux de Rubans collection are 18K white gold, diamonds, and (of course) pearls.

If Michelle Yeoh’s necklace is indeed an expansion of this collection, it introduces additional colors by adding purple gemstones, which could be amethyst or purple sapphire, and one teal center stone that looks like it could be a Paraiba or a similar tourmaline.

Michelle Yeoh is also wearing a watch with a large face embellished with white and black gemstones and a red center detail.

The trends: Bows are one of the hottest trends of 2024 and it’s so fun to see them beautifully rendered in diamonds like this! Pearls are also still going strong, especially in playful, large-scale, non-traditional pieces like this.

Wearing a statement necklace with statement earrings is a departure from the current understated red carpet jewelry trend, but Yeoh balances it out by foregoing rings and choosing a very subdued gown, hairstyle, and beauty look.

What do we think? Michelle Yeoh is one of the actresses I always expect good jewelry from and she absolutely delivered here. I adore the stark contrast of the elaborate necklace over her sleek black high-necked gown and – this won’t surprise you if you’ve been reading my posts for a while – I love that she wore statement earrings with it.

I do have to say that I think the watch on Yeoh’s wrist feels like a discordant note in this otherwise delightful jewelry symphony. This actress loves wearing a watch on the red carpet, but I don’t think it was a necessary addition to this outfit.

Judgement: 17/10 for this magic Mikimoto moment.

Four Decades of Excellence: How Wilkerson Transformed a Jeweler's Retirement into Celebration

After 45 years serving the Milwaukee community, Treiber & Straub Jewelers owner Michael Straub faced a significant life transition. At 75, the veteran jeweler made a personal decision many business owners understand: "I think it's time. I want to enjoy my wife with my grandchildren for the next 10, 15 years." Wilkerson's expertise transformed this major business transition into an extraordinary success. Their comprehensive approach to managing the going-out-of-business sale created unprecedented customer response—with lines forming outside the store and limits on how many shoppers could enter at once due to fire safety regulations. The results exceeded all expectations. "Wilkerson did a phenomenal job," Straub enthuses. "They were there for you through the whole thing, helped you with promoting it, helping you on day-to-day business. I can't speak enough for how well they did." The partnership didn't just facilitate a business closing; it created a celebratory finale to decades of service while allowing Straub to confidently step into his well-earned retirement.
