Judge the Jewels: Miley Cyrus’s Engagement Ring Is Quietly Stunning — Which Makes It Even Sweeter

A chunky gold band, a single cushion cut diamond, and zero fuss. For a maximalist like Miley, that says something.

The sighting: Musical Artist and erstwhile Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus attended the Hollywood premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash with her boyfriend of several years, Maxx Morando. Fans spotted a sparkling diamond ring on the fourth finger of her left hand and the rumors are now confirmed: it’s an engagement ring!

The jewels: The ring in question is a custom chunky gold sparkler by Jacquie Aiche: a thick, smooth 14K yellow gold band with a flush-set cushion cut diamond.

It looks like the diamond might be a warm color, even a pale yellow, but the brand didn’t specify any stone specs.

According to People magazine, jewelry experts gave greatly varying estimates as to the piece’s likely value:

Daniela Tarantino, Blue Nile’s VP of merchandising, guesses the ring is a 4-5 carat modified cushion cut and the ring is likely worth $450,000.

Former Antiques Roadshow appraiser Reyne Hirsch also described the stone as a 4-5 carat cushion cut diamond but gave a much lower projected retail value of $150,000-$250,000.

Kristy Cullinane of Plum Diamonds pointed out that we don’t know if this is a natural or lab grown diamond, and gave two estimates: $200,000+ if it is Earth-mined or $15,000 if it is a lab-grown diamond.

Cyrus is a longtime fan of Jacquie Aiche and has often been spotted in the designer’s body chains and diamond earrings, even choosing a pair of Jacquie Aiche earrings for her first wedding in 2018.

Speaking of Cyrus’s first wedding: this engagement ring is very different from her previous one! Both designs are yellow gold, cushion-cut diamond rings, but the earlier ring (from now ex-husband Liam Hemsworth) was a rounder stone and a Neil Lane setting with scattered accent diamonds and elaborate vintage-inspired details.

The trends: This ring couldn’t be more on trend. The chunky gold, the smooth design, the elongated (possibly warm-colored) diamond! The design is reminiscent of Dua Lipa’s engagement ring, which also features a single diamond in a chunky gold band, but I find Cyrus’s ring to be more elegantly proportioned than Dua Lipa’s.

What do we think? The ring is a beautiful design: alluring in its simplicity and satisfyingly solid. I love how the longthy cushion cut diamond reflects the light softly from its gold setting and the East-West setting feels chic and fashion-forward.

The design feels especially understated when you look at Cyrus’s very daring personal fashion history, but I think that makes this engagement ring choice feel even sweeter. Maybe the dramatic outfits were something Cyrus did for the public as a performer, but this quietly stunning ring is just for her and her love.

Judgement: 13/10 for a truly beautiful ring.
