The sighting: Actress Nina Dobrev recently attended the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards in a darkly romantic floral Carolina Herrera dress with jewels to match.

The jewels: Nina Dobrev wore two major types of jewelry: a pair of statement earrings and two cocktail rings.

The dramatic earrings were Renato Cipullo’s Mosaic Earrings, an Art Deco style design made from black onyx and red carnelian in 18K yellow gold. The earrings are listed on the designer’s website for $7,950.

Both rings were by Effy and feature abstract, swooping motifs in black and white diamonds, with black being the predominant color.

The trends: This red and black floral gown and matching jewelry are peak Whimsigoth, the darkly romantic 1990’s trend still enjoying a strong revival.

Modern Art Deco is also a powerful trend right now, and the shape of the Renato Cipullo earrings places them firmly in that category.

I’ve also seen an uptick in dark metals and black jewelry as we head into winter 2025, that seems to be a smaller trend that’s happening too.

What do we think? This is fantastic. The moody floral dress with the dark, dramatic earrings and additional pop of saturated color in the rings is impactful in the best way. The saturated hues flatter the actress’s coloring without overpowering her and the wealth of details – with the translucent skirt, the details on the bodice, the blood-red lipstick – give enough for the eye to focus on that I don’t mind the lack of necklace.

I think that this kind of look – statement earring and coordinated rings in bold colors that match an outfit – could be a very powerful styling moment as we head into Winter 2025. Imagine this outfit at a holiday party! It would be glorious.

Judgement: 12/10 for a wonderfully dramatic look.
