The sighting: Musical artist Ricky Martin wore some serious jewels (and very little shirt) while walking the red carpet at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, where he was honored as the first ever recipient of the Latin Icon award. Let’s take a look!

The jewels: Martin wore three major necklaces, all by Rahaminov Diamonds.

The first piece – the showstopper – was an 18K white and rose gold necklace with oval-, round- and emerald-cut diamonds totaling 17.75 carats and a 12-carat brown diamond pendant at the center.

The second necklace was 18K yellow gold with a 16.3-carat pear-shaped tourmaline illusion bezel pendant, and the third was the same style with an 11.57-  carat emerald-cut tourmaline illusion bezel pendant.

Martin changed his outfit before performing later in the evening, but kept all three necklaces.

The trends: Statement layering, or wearing multiple large pieces at once, is one of the leading trends as we head into the colder months of 2025. This look is a perfect example of how fun and impactful this trend can be.

What do we think? Wearing these necklaces together undercuts the seriousness of the jewelry in a way that feels whimsical, fun and inviting. It may seem counterintuitive, but the juxtaposition of the extraordinarily rare gems styled in a casual way actually makes the whole look feel even more opulent rather than less so.

This approach evokes a two-pronged reaction of “Wow, look at those jewels!” and “Whoa, he’s wearing them all together?” for a guaranteed jaw-dropping effect that’s even more effective with that casually undone shirt (and the chiseled physique beneath).

It makes me happy to see more celebrity men branching out in terms of the jewels they’re willing to wear on the red carpet. This looks fantastic and I hope it inspires even more red carpet jewelry moments!

Judgment: 14/10 for a luxe look worthy of the first ever Latin icon award.
