The sighting: Her magnificence Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter has paused in her busy schedule of writing songs that I love to sing loudly when I’m alone in the car to acquire a new accessory that you absolutely must see.
Spoiler alert: we’ve got a horse-shaped diamond.
The jewels: This is a custom design by Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of Louis Cartier. It’s a yellow gold ring centering a large, oblong lab-grown diamond shaped like the head of a horse. The detail of the shape is staggering: you can see the dainty peaks of the horse’s ears, the contours of its jaw, the slight indent at its nostrils.
The equine diamond is flanked on each side by a circular embellishment with pavé diamonds – presumably inspired by horseshoes or bits or some other equestrian hardware (I’m sorry, I wasn’t a horse girl). There’s also a gorgeous little detail with interlocking loops at the back of the shank, which only Beyoncé will be able to see when the ring is worn.
The equestrian bauble could be a celebration of the superstar’s recent foray into country music, or a memento marking the release of her new whiskey brand, Sir Davis.
The trends: I think that novelty-shaped lab grown diamond rings like this could have huge trend potential. This style could never have been anything but a celebrity indulgence before the proliferation of lab grown diamonds, but lab grown prices could make this kind of design doable for real customers.
The idea has so much potential! People could honor their hobbies, their pets, their accomplishments, anything that resonates with them. There are endless possibilities for novelty diamond personalization.
Not sure it will take off? Go read the comments under Jean Dousset’s ring reveal post. Expect a lot of “Wow omg,” “wait STOP I need this!!” and “CAN YOU MAKE A SECOND ONE.”
What do we think? A horse is a horse, of course, of course…but what about when a DIAMOND is a horse??
This is wild and I love it. It’s so fun and whimsical and glamorous and clever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better use of lab grown diamonds.
Judgement: 500,000,000/10 because are you kidding with this magnificence?
