JULIA ROBERTS HAD MANY looks while promoting After The Hunt at the Venice International Film Festival through different premieres in London and New York and on talk shows such as The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. She could be spotted in drippy diamond earrings and colorful gemstone statement necklaces, but the standout look was Roberts’ longtime stylist Elizabeth Stewart’s curation of menswear suitings with multiple brooches on ties or a lapel.
Brooches had died down on the red carpet for female A-listers yet became the trend in jewelry for male celebrities in all of the performing arts. The man-brooch was the piece through a few years of awards seasons, but Stewart brought brooches back into the spotlight in a big way for all jewelry enthusiasts when she styled Roberts in them with pantsuits on several occasions.
It started with the 63rd New York Film Festival’s premiere of After The Hunt when Roberts wore Vivienne Westwood with a tie scattered with what seemed to be vintage 1950s brooches in different motifs and silhouettes (above).

For her appearance on Late Night With Stephen Colbert, she did it again this time with a tongue-in cheek vibe with brooches including frogs, flowers, stars, surrealist silverware, and a safety pin with a dangling peace sign.

Then, on October 10, Stewart styled the lapel with what looks like a bunch of diamond brooches.
As an antique and vintage brooch collector who has combined different styles and time periods on dresses, sweaters, lapels and pockets of jackets and even wore them in my hair, this makes me very happy to see and also makes me want to go out and purchase a tie to imitate this look. How about you? What’s your take on bringing the brooch back for the holidays in multiples or just one that suits your personal style?
