KATE MIDDLETON, who finished her last round of chemotherapy a few months ago, recently returned to the public eye, looking as beautiful and stylish as ever at the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade to welcome Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the emir of Qatar, for a state visit to the U.K.

The rich burgundy that made up her outfit was elegant and also spoke to the colors of Qatar. Her Alexander McQueen double- breasted coatdress was accessorized with burgundy from the hat to her gloves to her boots and her Chanel handbag.

But the real draw, as always with the royal family, was the jewelry passed down through generations and worn for special occasions. On this outing, she wore the four-row Japanese pearl choker and pearl earring set, both of which were once owned by her husband’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The pearl rows are joined are at the middle by marquise diamonds. Originally gifted to Queen Elizabeth II during her first-ever state visit to Japan in 1975, the pearls were later designed into the choker by the court jeweler at the time, Garrard.

Prior to wearing the pearls to this event, Middleton was spotted wearing them at Prince Phillip’s 2021 funeral and again at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022. This occasion was a more joyous event, with Middleton looking bright-eyed and cheerful, her rosy complexion complemented by her mother-in-law’s diamond and pearl drop earrings. These pearls were gifted to Queen Elizabeth in 1947 as a wedding gift from the ruler of Bahrain.
