LILY COLLINS COULD be wearing pajamas sans makeup and still look beautiful. In her role as the protagonist in Emily In Paris, she has learned how to dress like a youthful French woman, with the elusive quality and unstudied chic indigenous the city of lights and fashion.

In real life, Collins appears on the red carpet in a bevy of gowns that have made headlines in the press and read like a who’s who of couture designers. Same for the jewelry. She never looks overdone; instead, she wears one or two pieces that are trendworthy, like these Cartier tassel earrings in 18K yellow and white gold, garnets, peridots, rubellites, rubies, onyx, moonstones and diamonds. While that is a mouthful, the earrings are awe-inspiring, featuring a three-dimensional top with carved gemstones that cascade into multiple strands of beads.

In 2021, we reported on fabric- and trim-inspired jewelry — with tassels being one of the main attractions for earrings and lariats — and they seem to still be going strong. The earrings Collins is wearing are a particularly exceptional pair that sway and flow when she moves and complement her loose updo, bangs and wisps framing her face. They also complement the high neckline of her Christian Dior embroidery see-through top and floral wrap floor-length skirt.

The earrings are imbued with the type of Eastern influences that inspired the later Art Deco period.

Collins isn’t the only one to have worn tassel earrings this year: We saw diamond and emerald versions on Selena Gomez at the 2022 Emmy awards and a pair of Panthère de Cartier High Jewelry earrings on Gomez from which diamond rubies and onyx swung from the house’s iconic panthers with emerald eyes at the 2nd Annual Academy Museum Gala.

As they say, if there is three, it is a trend. I believe we will be seeing more tassel earrings making their way out of designer studios for holiday 2022 into spring 2023.

And speaking of holiday, let’s get back to Collins for a moment. As dazzling as she looked, who like me can’t wait to be entertained again by Emily In Paris? The first episode of Season 3 will air just before Christmas on December 21,2022.

When There’s No Succession Plan, Call Wilkerson

Bob Wesley, owner of Robert C. Wesley Jewelers in Scottsdale, Ariz., was a third-generation jeweler. When it was time to enjoy life on the other side of the counter, he weighed his options. His lease was nearing renewal time and with no succession plan, he decided it was time to call Wilkerson. There was plenty of inventory to sell and at first, says Wesley, he thought he might try to manage a sale himself. But he’s glad he didn’t. “There’s no way I could have done this as well as Wilkerson,” he says. Wilkerson took responsibility for the entire event, with every detail — from advertising to accounting — done, dusted and managed by the Wilkerson team. “It’s the complete package,” he says of the Wilkerson method of helping jewelers to easily go on to the next phase of their lives. “There’s no way any retailer can duplicate what they’ve done.”
