EVER SINCE LUPITA Nyong’o turned up on the Academy Awards red carpet in 2014 wearing Fred Leighton’s diamond headband, diamond earrings and totem frog pinky ring (when she was the recipient of the Oscar for 12 Years a Slave), she has become a style-setter to emulate. She pulled this off again at the 2025 Met Gala when she arrived in a feminine twist on the “Tailored For You” dress code with a custom aquamarine-colored pant suit, satin blouse and a chiffon cape by Chanel that offered an unexpected flair to the crisp tailoring of the suit. The Chanel high jewelry she wore also softened the lines of the pastel ensemble. She wore iconic motifs in the pieces, which included the Premiers Brins earrings in 18K white gold with diamonds; the Comète Aubazine brooch in 18K white gold and diamonds; Étoile Filante, circa 1932 diamond ring; Comète Couture Ring in 18K white gold and diamonds; and the Étoile Filante ring in 18K white gold and diamonds.

Her approach to the creativity of the dress code was on the mark, but I would not have expected anything less from Nyong’o.

Zendaya, another icon of style, also donned a look that was in keeping with the evening’s theme yet with a true dandy twist. Her all-white three-piece Louis Vuitton suit by Pharrell Williams worn with a white fedora took a surprising turn when her back revealed a Bulgari diamond serpent brooch from the brand’s newest collection. Talk about wearing a brooch in an unpredictable way!

Both of the actresses get it right every time, and the Met Gala was no exception.
