Men Are Spending Far More on Engagement Rings Than They Actually Think They Should

The average spend on an engagement ring is pushing $6,000.

MarketWatch cited several recent surveys that gauged consumer sentiment regarding how much is an appropriate amount to spend on engagement rings, and the results suggest that men are spending much more than they think they should.

A study by wedding website The Knot found that men are now spending an average of $5,978 on rings for their brides to be. But according to a survey conducted by GoBankingRates.com, 55 percent of people believe that spending on engagement rings shouldn’t exceed $3,000. Along that same line, a survey by American Express found that women thought $2,731 was an appropriate amount to spend on average, with that number dipping to $1,991 for men.
