She Wanted to Be Painted Wearing Some Truly Amazing Jewelry

This month’s jewelry joke comes from Nelson Holdo of Asanti Fine Jewellers, who shares the story of a dying woman who has requested a final portrait be painted of her.

MRS. JOHNSON decided to have her own portrait painted by a well-known artist. She told the artist, “Paint me with 2-carat diamond stud earrings, a 5-carat diamond ring with baguettes … glimmering emerald and diamond bracelets, and a beautiful Burmese ruby pendant.”

“But ma’am, you are not wearing any of those things.”

“I know,” said Mrs. Johnson. “My health is not good and my husband is having an affair with his secretary. When I die I’m sure he will marry her, and I want her to go nuts looking for the jewelry.”

ABOUT THE JOKE-TELLER

Nelson Holdo is president and founder of Asanti Fine Jewellers in Pasadena, CA. He is a certified gemologist appraiser through the American Gem Society and an acclaimed expert on colored gems. His specialty at Asanti is working with “the big three” colored stones: emeralds, rubies and sapphires, of which Asanti has a world-class collection — of real stones, not the painted kind, he assures us.

This Third-Generation Jeweler Was Ready for Retirement. He Called Wilkerson

Retirement is never easy, especially when it means the end to a business that was founded in 1884. But for Laura and Sam Sipe, it was time to put their own needs first. They decided to close J.C. Sipe Jewelers, one of Indianapolis’ most trusted names in fine jewelry, and call Wilkerson. “Laura and I decided the conditions were right,” says Sam. Wilkerson handled every detail in their going-out-of-business sale, from marketing to manning the sales floor. “The main goal was to sell our existing inventory that’s all paid for and turn that into cash for our retirement,” says Sam. “It’s been very, very productive.” Would they recommend Wilkerson to other jewelers who want to enjoy their golden years? Absolutely! “Call Wilkerson,” says Laura. “They can help you achieve your goals so you’ll be able to move into retirement comfortably.”
