Hialeah police arrested a man and woman Monday in connection with a jewelry theft scheme where the pair allegedly posed as customers before fleeing with gold jewelry, WPLG Local 10 News reported.

Investigators said the duo — Steven Louis Romero, 39, and Jennifer Izquierdo, 43 — targeted Estrella De Oro and Cuban Dan Jewelry in the Greater Miami Dade area, stealing approximately $13,000 in gold from each location.

Arrest reports state Romero entered each store first, followed some time later by Izquierdo, who, as she was being buzzed into the store, would hold the door open, allowing Romero to flee.

Police identified the suspects through surveillance footage and vehicles registered to Romero’s relatives.

“In each case, we are looking at an average of $13,000 in stolen jewelry. They would go and pawn it later on,” Hialeah police Chief George Fuente was quoted as saying.

Both suspects reportedly confessed and were booked into jail Monday night.

Caught on Camera: Man Steals $10,000 in Gold Chains From Arizona Pawn Shop

Police in Glendale, AZ, are looking for a man suspected of stealing over $10,000 worth of gold jewelry from a local pawn shop on March 4.

Surveillance video from inside Super Pawn shows the man walk into the store carrying a hammer. He drops the hammer on the way in, picks it up, and then uses it to smash a display case in the corner of the store and grab five gold chains.

As the man was running out of the store, he appeared to lift his hammer at a customer, but didn’t strike him with it.

“It could have been way worse,” Omar Lopez Badilla, a sales associate, told CBS 12News.

“He just ran in all of the sudden and started smacking the glass. It took him a couple of tries. I mean the glass is pretty tough, but at the end he got through it, reached in, and just grabbed it, and ran,” Lopez Badilla said.

Workers said they didn’t recognize the man, but think he might have stopped in the store about two hours earlier and looked at jewelry in the case.

“He was over there in the corner. It just seemed like he was pacing around, definitely mentally preparing himself, and then he just eventually decided to do it,” Lopez Badilla said.

Lopez Badilla said the store isn’t expecting to get their merchandise back, but is happy no one was hurt.
