WHAT’S YOUR THINKING on this? If Rihanna wears a piece of jewelry, will it go viral among her fans and followers? Will it spark a trend? It has happened before when Bad Gal Riri wore certain jewelry. This time she has worn the same pieces multiple times while spending time in Los Angeles. It’s a layering of necklaces as usual, but I am not used to seeing her wear the same two pendants five times. Does this mean that they are sentimental or that they are easy to wear for summer while traipsing about L.A. in the heat while pregnant? Perhaps all of the above.
Rihanna wears a yellow gold choker, a piece that has become iconic with her style.
Next is a three-dimensional geometric gold initial R pendant by Renato Cipulllo — the Splendente Letter Pendant is in 18K yellow gold in a box style font with a perforated back. Cipullo designed this original font style influenced by ’70s motifs and Italian graphic design.
He works with his daughter Serena and is a third-generation jeweler (Serena is the forth). Growing up in Naples, Italy, he came from a family of jewelers. His father owned a company that first sold coral from Torre del Greco, later became the largest importer of Mallorcan pearls, and was also known for mariner chains (now commonly called the “Gucci link”). Renato made his way to the U.S. after working in Italy, Paris and then for David Webb in New York. He then joined his legendary brother Aldo Cipullo, working on designs for Cartier and then Aldo’s own collection. Renato also launched his own collection in the 1970s, blending Italian tradition with bold, sculptural designs.
The other pendant that we continue to see mixed with the Renato Cipullo piece while Rihanna is out and about in L.A is cult favorite Marie Lichtenberg’s Check Ruby Scapular on Rosa Classic Chain in 18K gold set with rubies and white diamonds.
Lichtenberg’s pieces are a hit with celebrities and jewelry collectors alike. They are often meaningful, always inventive and many times whimsical or tongue-in-cheek. This piece is somewhat refined for Lichtenberg and one that we’ve seen Rihanna wear on other occasions and at various events.
I love seeing a celebrity style-setter wearing the same piece repeatedly in a week — these photos run from Aug. 3 through 10. It gives them a down-to-earth feeling that can be imitated easily and a look that can be deeply personal and trendworthy at the same time.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson
When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren.
For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish.
"Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful."
The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing."
Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
