They took advantage of the massive distraction.
Thieves took $6 million in goods from a jewelry wholesaler in New York just as revelers waited for the ball to drop in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
WNBC-TV posted a video clip that includes surveillance footage of the crime at KGH Holdings in Koreatown, which is located in Midtown Manhattan. Three men are believed to have carried out the crime.
The New Year’s Eve celebration, which included 1 million revelers and thousands of police officers, served as a distraction as the thieves raided two safes. They took rings, necklaces and other jewelry, tossing the items into their backpacks.
The thieves are believed to have “pried and hammered” their way into the business, according to WNBC. They’d been waiting in the building since about 10 p.m.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
