The firm embraces 'slightly inappropriate.'

Jewelry company Stone & Strand decided to go edgy when introducing a new line of earrings by Maria Tash, a designer focused on body piercings.

The ad copy read: "Something for every hole."

On May 4, social media influencer Margaret Lyons tweeted the ad with the note "Sure, that's a good slogan for a jewelry brand." The Twitterverse found it highly amusing the tweet has racked up more than 39,000 likes and more than 16,000 retweets.

Unfortunately, Maria Tash wasn't a fan. The designer wrote on Twitter: "This is from a 3rd party without our approval. We've asked to change it, we prefer to think we have something for every piercing! Thanks."

On its website, New York-based Stone & Strand wrote that its all-female staff deemed the slogan as "cheeky" and "saw that it played on both what we offer (cool jewelry) and who we are as women (irreverent)."

"We are a group of strong women with opinions, a dedication to creating something style-oriented and a hold no-issue policy with things that are slightly inappropriate when no harm is being done," the company stated. "We find empowering women to say what they feel and express themselves without holding back a key reason why we keep creating the jewelry we do."

Still, the company removed the Maria Tash reference. A newer version of the spot replaces "Introducing Maria Tash" with "For the girl with multiple piercings."
