Police shot a suspect in leg following the May 2 robbery of a jewelry store in Washington, DC.
The store was Ideal Cut Jewelers in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, WTOP reported.
The Jewelers’ Security Alliance stated in a bulletin:
Shortly before 4:00 p.m., two subjects, consisting of a male and a female, were buzzed into a jewelry store. Shortly thereafter, they brandished a gun and pointed it at the jewelry store owner’s face. The subjects proceeded to push the jeweler and his employee down and tied them up.
At some point, the subjects tried to obtain jewelry from a showcase. The jeweler then locked the store’s door and pushed the panic button. The jeweler has an emergency door that leads out of the back of the store.
The owner and his employee then ran out, and an officer from the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) arrived at the store. The MTPD has stated that the female subject pointed a gun at the officer. An officer then fired his gun, which struck the female subject in the leg. Two subjects were taken into custody. The woman’s injuries are not life-threatening. Tan Hoang, owner of the store, told WJLA:
“It’s a repair shop. We’re not a big store. We don’t have very much jewelry in the store, but things like this happen.
“I have to start again, but what can I do?”
