(PRESS RELEASE) NEW YORK — The 2022 Original Miami Beach Antique show, taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, January 20-23, will offer several opportunities for education to attendees of the event. Coupled with the knowledge and wisdom of U.S. Antique Show Dealers, these initiatives serve to arm prospective buyers with the information they need to make informed purchasing decisions.

The show’s popular Jewelry History Series (JHS) has been re-imagined for the 2022 event. Organized by Elyse Zorn Karlin and Gail Brett Levine, the JHS program will take place on Dealer Day, January 19. Attendees will be treated to lunch at the show and will be provided with written materials created by the program organizers. They will then be given a personalized tour where they will be introduced to specific dealers who will make presentations about specific eras and design houses. The ability to cross-reference information with demonstrative pieces of jewelry will be instrumental in solidifying their understanding.

On Friday, January 21, Marion Fasel of The Adventurine, a renowned jewelry historian, trend forecaster and curator of the American Museum of Natural History’s 2021 exhibition Beautiful Creatures: Jewelry Inspired By The Animal Kingdom, will guide jewelry enthusiasts to some of the greatest treasures in the show and highlight their historical significance. In these two tours, Marion will be joined by Lynn Yaeger, a contributing editor at Vogue and Town & Country, and a life-long jewelry collector. Lynn will bring her unique perspective to the tour taking guests to some of her favorite dealers as she shares stories about buying fine jewelry (even when you are on a budget), the mistakes she has made and the successes she has experienced in the marketplace.

2022 will also mark the inaugural year of the show’s exclusive partnership with Sotheby’s. In addition to offering their experts’ insight on Appraisal Day, which is taking place on Saturday, January 22 from 11am to 7pm, specialists from the renowned international auction house will be leading several “Pop-Up Education” sessions. Covering topics that range from “Auction Trends to Watch” to “A Collector’s Guide to Estate Planning,” these succinct sessions will serve to engage attendees with valuable and insightful information and practical applications.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer these compelling opportunities for education to attendees of our event,” noted Mark Lind, Group Show Director of U.S. Antique Shows. “This hands-on information will serve to enhance the experiences of both casual shoppers and dedicated collectors and help guide them as they meet with our dealers, who are among the most knowledgeable in the world in their areas of expertise.”

He Doubled His Sales Goals with Wilkerson

John Matthews, owner of John Michael Matthews Fine Jewelry in Vero Beach, Florida, is a planner. As an IJO member jeweler, he knew he needed an exit strategy if he ever wanted to g the kind of retirement he deserved. He asked around and the answers all seemed to point to one solution: Wilkerson. He talked to Rick Hayes, Wilkerson president, and took his time before making a final decision. He’d heard Wilkerson knew their way around a going out of business sale. But, he says, “he didn’t realize how good it was going to be.” Sales goals were “ambitious,” but even Matthews was pleasantly surprised. “It looks like we’re going to double that.”
