WATCHING THE INTERVIEW with Taylor Swift and Stephen Colbert, I immediately zoomed in on the vintage diamond and ruby necklace (rubies being my favorite gemstone and also a gem that Swift has worn on different occasions with a nod to Travis Kelce’s team colors). (See here)

It was a standout piece and a perfect complement to Swift’s David Koma burgundy dress. I later found out it was from Saidian Vintage Jewels. But that wasn’t the big reveal. As she moved her arms and hands to speak, I also noticed a stunner of a bracelet with a large opal in the center and immediately thought — aha, another Easter Egg — possibly worn to signify her song “Opalite” on her record-selling album “Life of A Showgirl”?

Also, it is Kelce’s birthstone, and a gem like rubies, which Swift has worn on different occasions — like the posts on Instagram after her 34th birthday.

So I went on IG directly to Sarah Chapelle’s Instagram account @taylorswiftstyled to find out where the bracelet was sourced and if she felt it meant what I had thought. Chapelle documents Swift’s fashion on her blog “Taylor Swift Style” and has written a book, “Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras” (St. Martin’s Griffin, October 2024)

Here is what she wrote: “Part of Taylor’s jewelry for her @colbertlateshow appearance included this stunning statement opal bracelet sourced by Nikki McVean of Danes Road Antiques, a Memphis-based jeweler specializing in beautifully special pieces like this one. The storied piece complements the vintage necklace she also wore. McVean told me she had sourced the piece last fall at an antique show in Brimfield, MA.

Taylor has long loved opals as a gemstone, an admiration she also shares with her mom. In the past, she’s worn many opal pieces. Now, of course, opals have a whole new meaning in her life and art. This piece now has me wondering if this might be a nod to a possible “Opalite” music video?”

The song “Opalite” seems to be a song about finding love with Kelce after her past heartbreaking romances, so this plus the fact that she has a passion for the gem and that it’s Kelce’s birthstone, seems to figure into her wearing the large opal bracelet on her wrist while talking about her life, her music, and the Disney+ docuseries “The End of an Era” about her Eras Tour, which premiered on December 12.

We welcome comments about Swift’s style, whether you think the bracelet was another “Easter Egg” and anything else you might have to say.

Honoring a Legacy: How Smith & Son Jewelers Exceeded Every Goal With Wilkerson

When Andrew Smith decided to close the Springfield, Massachusetts location of Smith & Son Jewelers, the decision came down to family. His father was retiring after 72 years in the business, and Andrew wanted to spend more time with his children and soon-to-arrive grandchildren. For this fourth-generation jeweler whose great-grandfather founded the company in 1918, closing the 107-year-old Springfield location required the right partner. Smith chose Wilkerson, and the experience exceeded expectations from start to finish. "Everything they told me was 100% true," Smith says. "The ease and use of all their tools was wonderful." The consultants' knowledge and expertise proved invaluable. Smith and his father set their own financial goal, but Wilkerson proposed three more ambitious targets. "We thought we would never make it," Smith explains. "We were dead wrong. We hit our first goal, second goal and third goal. It was amazing." Smith's recommendation is emphatic: "I would never be able to do what they did by myself."
