ARCHIVAL, HISTORICAL AND HEIRLOOM pieces have been an ever-growing theme at red carpet and awards presentations. The 79th Annual BAFTA Awards in London were no exception.
Teyana Taylor appeared in some spectacular pieces from Tiffany & Co., which included a rare Retro bracelet from the Tiffany & Co. Archives in gold and platinum set with citrines and diamond accents, circa 1940-1950. Citrines were a popular stone throughout this time period due to scarcity of precious gems during WWII. The renowned houses began working with large and small semi-precious stones such as citrine, aquamarine and amethyst. Hollywood stars of that era appeared on and off-screen in variations of these types of pieces.
Taylor also wore an iconic Bird on a Rock brooch by Tiffany & Co. set in gold and platinum with diamonds, pink sapphire and citrine. The brooch was originally designed in 1965 by Jean Schlumberger and versions of it have become a red carpet favorite among both male and female celebrities over the past few years. The other pieces from Tiffany that she wore included a ring in platinum with a spessartine garnet, and a Sixteen Stone ring set in yellow gold and platinum with rubies and diamonds.

Princess Kate has always looked stunning when she attended the BAFTA Awards. She was not present at the event last year but returned this year wearing a Gucci pink and lavender gown that she has worn before and the historic diamond Greville Chandelier Earrings, which were designed by Cartier between 1918 and 1929. They were originally bequeathed to the Queen Mother by Dame Margaret Greville in 1942. They were then passed down to Queen Elizabeth, who wore them throughout her reign. Kate has been seen in them twice before.

But even more exciting to see was the rare heirloom Queen Mary Choker Bracelet that sparkled on Princess Kate’s wrist. It was originally designed for Mary of Teck and was worn by Queen Mary in a portrait as a diamond choker. It was created in the 1920s and thus features an Art Deco design.
The choker was not worn again until the Queen Mother wore it on her wrist approximately 20 years later. Queen Elizabeth II inherited it after the Queen Mother’s death. Kate has since worn it on quite a few occasions and it once again glittered again on the occasion of the BAFTA awards.
We recently saw the legendary Taj Mahal necklace lent to Margot Robbie from the estate of Elizabeth Taylor which was a jaw-dropping jewelry moment.
I can’t wait to see if more pieces from the past make an appearance at the upcoming SAG and Academy Awards.
