Winning accolades and receiving standing ovations at film festivals, Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana has won over the movie critics in the biopic Spencer, which is directed by Pablo Larraín, who also directed Jackie. The film takes place over the crucial weekend during the Christmas holidays in the 1990s when Diana decided to divorce Prince Charles. The jewelry in the film — yes, we are of course getting to the jewels — was provided by the iconic house of Mouawad, which was the exclusive jeweler to the film. Diana’s love for pearls is played up in every scene, from a large pearl strand to the Spencer Tiara, love knot earrings and a host of other pearl jewels that were part of her collection There is also the sapphire engagement ring which Mouawad created as a modern rendition of the original. Mouawad took creative liberties to design jewelry that would not be exact reproductions but pieces that would be accurate in characterizing the jewels she wore at the time — elegant, classic, enduring and befitting to Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Diana during this time in her life.
