DURING RED CARPET SEASON, diamonds were out in full force starting with the Golden Globes and winding up with the Oscars. Many of the trends we saw have been evolving for a few seasons, including linear earrings. But rather than static stilettos, these interpretations had swing and movement. There was a distinctive art deco slant, which combined streamlined shapes with different cuts of diamonds and some pop gemstones.

Aging Inventory Sale? There’s a Science to Maximizing Results

Craig Husar, president of Lyle Husar Designs of Milwaukee, WI, has tried to organize sales of his aging inventory before he let Wilkerson do one for him. “If it had been up to me, I probably would have used the same methods I’ve always used and I would have gotten the same results I’ve always been disappointed with,” he says. After Wilkerson, there’s no going back. “Everything Wilkerson brought to the table just elevated this event higher than anything I’ve ever experienced before.”

DURING AWARDS SEASON, the last piece of jewelry that our industry wants to see is small earrings. But we also want to see a focal point, and for the celebrities who made a statement with necklaces, this was the way they went with their lobes. And in real life, there is nothing like the perfect stud. The most desirable are those that allow us to feel comfortable every day; they have character, but they also let us shine. The more individualized, the better.

DIAMOND BRACELETS CLAIMED their share of the spotlight during this year’s awards season. We saw them piled high in stacks or as one wide standout piece. Designers are inspired by the garland styles of the Belle Époque, the geometric lines of art deco, and mid-20th century modern looks. Teach clients to layer styles that they can purchase over time — or help them find that one everyday go-to.
