For the first time in the company’s history, Pantone has created its Color of the Year for 2022, and it is calling it “Very Peri.” A statement from Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, explains, “Creating a brand new color reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, this new red-violet-infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lie before us.”

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, adds, “Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and a dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.” A press release issued by the company said about its selection, “It blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red.” So what does this mean for jewelry? We will see more of this optimistic color in innovative designs and in gemstones that include tanzanite, violet spinel, purplish blue chalcedony, lavender and purple sapphire and in accents of enameling.
