A jewelry store employee fought back against an armed robber Thursday night at the Montclair Place Mall in San Bernardino Country, CA, an act of defiance captured on store surveillance video.

Alin Ouhan was preparing to close Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair around 7:45 p.m. when a man entered, claiming to browse for a Valentine’s Day gift. Moments later, the suspect brandished what appeared to be a handgun and a stun gun, demanding Ouhan open the display cases.

Instead of surrendering, Ouhan engaged in a physical scuffle with the man, pushing him even as he shattered the glass case. “I was scared. I was scared so much, but I had to do something” Ouhan told she KTLA. However, she noted she was also overcome with anger because the shop is a family business. “It’s my brother’s store, you know,” she said.

The suspect allegedly shocked Ouhan’s lower body with a stun gun before fleeing. Montclair police later recovered the suspect’s weapon, which investigators determined was an unloaded and inoperable BB gun.

The store owner, identified by KTLA as Ohans, credited his sister with protecting the business but warned others not to take similar risks. “I would definitely not recommend to any business owner or any of their employees to take such an action like that,” he said. “You don’t know what to expect”.

The suspect, described as a man between 45 and 55 years old, remains at large after fleeing through the mall. While police initially said he appeared to flee empty-handed, the owner reported thousands of dollars in losses.
