RESILIENT IS THE WORD that best describes the Pages, owners of Hingham Jewelers in Hingham, MA. Fire, armed robbery, and a global pandemic have tried to take down the 75-year-old family-owned store, but their lineage is seemingly impervious to harm; every time a tragedy strikes, they pick up the pieces and put them back together better than before.

Hingham Jewelers was founded in 1948 by Angelo and Helen Manjos. Angelo had become interested in watchmaking while serving in World War II. They had a daughter, Stacey, who grew up working in the business. In 1988, she witnessed its destruction when a fire burned it to the ground. Angelo and Helen were nearing the end of their working years and were unsure they wanted to rebuild, but Stacey stepped in to take over.

The cream paint color on the interior and exterior is calming, classic and a fitting choice for coastal New England
She gave the shop new life in a new location and was eventually joined by her husband, David. In 2004, they moved to a freestanding site and built what is now their signature clocktower, reinforcing their status in the community as its premier jeweler.
“People told us how we were a part of their lives, and I think my mom,in particular, needed to hear that,” explains Michael.
Michael, meanwhile, who had grown up working in the store, went on to study meteorology in college, securing a position as a meteorologist on TV after graduation. For 10 years, he worked as one, but still lingered in the jewelry world, attending trade shows with his parents and helping behind the scenes. Then the pandemic struck in 2020, and the business was challenged yet again, putting David and Stacey at another crossroads. At the same time, Michael’s TV contract was nearing renewal; he decided to join the family business full-time.

“I had always thought about it, and the timing felt right,” he says.
In 2023, David, Stacey and Michael embarked on a major renovation to mark the store’s 75th anniversary. They painted the shop’s exterior in colors that spoke to the classic coastal charm of its New England community. Cream-color, shiplap-style siding covers the exterior, with a weathered gray shingle-style roof, black lettering for signage, and dark green trim for the entry door with glass side panels, awnings and window trim. A towering Roman numeral-type clock that was added in 2004 was already in place with a quasi-lantern room and cupola, as if the store were indeed a lighthouse, beckoning clients from miles away — which it does.
“It’s a true destination,” says Michael. “The clocktower serves as a beacon and landmark in the area.”
Inside were the biggest changes, with a bright, open showroom (they took down some walls) that’s spacious yet inviting with lots of windows, recessed lights and the same calming cream color from the facade. Cases are the same colors, and there are three sit-down ones in the bridal area, providing plenty of room to pore over custom 3D renderings and design projects. Plus, open floating shelves feature ring samples, a portion of which are magnetic for easy try-ons. “These allow our clients to mix and match styles and stones, so they can visualize their dream ring,” explains Michael.
